Premise and Theme of Thurn and Taxis

Set in Hapsburg Empire lands of the 17th century, players are tasked with emulating the achievements of the house of Thurn and Taxis, which over the centuries built a remarkable postal system throughout the Empire. Connect cities from Switzerland to Poland to establish successful postal routes and become the greatest post office mogul Europe has ever seen!

Game Components

For anyone interested in central Europe and its history and culture, the board of Thurn and Taxis is awesome. Each city in the various provinces is shown with a drawing of its most famous building, all of which are identified on a supplemental text. The board also shows the possible paths between cities, spaces for the city and carriage cards, and a nice illustration of the various officials with a reference of their powers. The game also comes with a bunch of wooden post office bits in the 4 player colors, a deck of city cards and carriage cards (small size, but it works because there's not much text on them), a bunch of cardboard counter tiles to collect when various objectives are completed, and 4 cardboard reference tiles. Overall the pieces are good, solid euro game components.
