While most employers seeking to hire high school students will not expect a lengthy curriculum vitae, they will expect a young adult to present a neat, organized and brief resume. Here are some tips to help students compose their first professional resume.
What is a Resume?
A resume summarizes a student’s talents, relevant interests, educational background, volunteer and work experience. Resumes should be organized chronologically, listing most recent experiences first. It should be presented in a clear, neat format using headings, sub-headings, and proper formatting.
High school students should compose a resume if they are seeking a volunteer position, summer internship or a first job. A student resume may be less than one page long; however, many professional resumes may reach up to four pages in length. Content and quality is more important than length.
